Below are suggestions for use with different age groups:

  • 6 months-2 years: Encourage children to use their hands to explore the playdough. Demonstrate squeezing, patting, smashing, or pinching playdough.
  • 2-3 years: Help your child pinch off pieces of playdough to make “pumpkins” to put in the pumpkin patch. You can also use a rolling pin or smash playdough and use a pumpkin cookie cutter to make pumpkins.
  • 3-5 years: Children can use both hands to roll playdough into a ball to make a pumpkin and place pumpkins on the playdough mat. Use small items to make stems for the pumpkins.
